Taking The Mystery Out Of Web Design: A Basic Guide

You want an outstanding website. Does that mean you need to invest in pricey software packages, and use complex templates? What you need for your website design can depend on how simple or fancy your site will be, as well as how much time you want to put toward creating the site. If you don’t have the time or energy to learn about web design, then you will end up having to use a tool made by someone else. With a bit of effort, though, and the use of these great tips, you will soon develop excellent web design skills.

It is always good to add a favicon to your website. The favicon is a 16×16 image file in the .Ico format. This image is the one you see next to the URL bar, next to the title of the page on an opened tab and is also visible on your bookmarks tab if you choose to bookmark a page. The favicon will help users quickly recognize your page in their browser without reading any text or directly viewing the page.

When you’re thinking about how to design a website, you need to be sure to think about the navigation. You want your navigation to be easily accessible and easy to use. Put the navigation bar on every page in a noticeable place. Also, make sure that it flows well with the rest of your page and doesn’t distract visitors.

Join online forums to learn even more about web design. It is easy to do a Google search to find new ideas and information about web design.

Have a search element included so visitors can search your website content. When a visitor wants to find something specifically, they will immediately look for the search tool. They may go to another site if you don’t have one. Place it near the page’s top right corner since this is one of the first places people usually look for them.

You want to keep the website page size minimal. Users with slower Internet connections may decide that the wait is not worth it if your site is slow to load. If it takes too long many will just leave and visit a different website.

Consider buying a web design program to help design a better website. These websites will help you to create elements for your site that you may not otherwise do without them, and they will help you to do it much more quickly. If your website has no appeal, the visitors will not come.

To help your website visitors easily navigate through your site, design it so that it becomes easy to find “stuff.” When you have a simple site that makes it easy to locate information, you keep your visitors there much longer. If you make it difficult for them, then they will get frustrated and leave.

Do not use blinking, scrolling text or other animations. Also, steer clear of sounds or music that plays automatically. All of these things are distracting to users and provide nothing of value. In addition, connection speeds vary from one site visitor to the next, and everyone does not have the same speed. Those users with slower connections will resent the slow-loading elements of your site.

If you desire feedback from your visitors, design your site to include a feedback form rather than a guestbook. A feedback form lets your site visitors contact you without having anything negative be shown to everyone else who sees your site. If you have a guestbook then everyone can read both good and bad comments, something you really do not want people to see, especially when the comments are negative.

Becoming a professional web designer will not put you through the same rigors of medical school. The formal schooling requirements are minimal for web design, and you won’t be facing any life and death decisions. As long as you can follow the tips you have learned above, you can design a great website today.
